Dear Friends and Supporters,
This is probably one of the most difficult postings I have ever had to write.
After nearly eight years of working to pay the medical bills of uninsured breast cancer patients here in Colorado, it is time to close The Mickaela Foundation. And while there is much sadness and regret about ending this mission, we have not been able to compete effectively with the bigger organizations for donations, and we simply have not maintained a consistent team to run the day-to-day and fundraising operations.
Those of you who I have been fortunate enough to have met throughout this journey, you have inspired me to reach beyond anything I could have imagined and stay with it for several years longer than I probably should have. And every time I spoke to one of "Our Ladies", on the phone or in person, it made it all worth it. If this thing was going to grow beyond just one person, it was going to do it this Summer. And it looked as though it might. We found some really good people to replace the original Board members who just finally had to step away after 6 years of service.
But it just wasn't enough.
To all of you who have been there with us since the beginning; thank you so much!
Martine
